I agree that it depends on the situation and culture for what is expected of women. Some cultures, in fact most, do expect less from women. I also agree that women do have power over men in the area of sex appeal. However, women can only have power over men if the man lets them.

Though the United States boasts equality, only recently did women get equal rights to men. Even so, society has not fully accepted the fact that women are in fact equal. Men are still stuck with the pressures of "bringing home the bacon" and women still are thought of as homemakers. Needless to say, after years and years of not having equal rights, we have figured out how to control men emotionally and get what we want. A woman can easily manipulate a man if they want, but I don't think to the extent as Lady Macbeth and urging her husband to kill for ambition

Power amongst men and women are not evenly distributed everywhere in the world. In the middle-east, women are seen as only babymakers and slaves, but in the U.S women and men have become equal in power in recent years. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth has power over her husband because he will kill Duncan just as she told him to.

I agree with Ryan and Tim on their point that women are persistent and that they know how to get what they want. Lady Macbeth is clearly very dominating. Lady Macbeth was easily able to persuade Macbeth by calling him a coward when he was second guessing the plan to murder Duncan.

Around the world, even in the U.S. women are expected to do different things than men. They have natural roles, stay and take care of the home and have children. Who has all the power? At least in the U.S. women and men have almost a equal role. There are both men and women in very high places in Americas industry. Lady Macbeth is very intimidating and has a some power over her husband. He is the only way she will ever become queen. So maybe Lady Macbeth is just as ambitious as Macbeth.

The discussion on women did not have a clear upper hand. I saw that women are sometimes overlooked, giving them an advantage. This seemed the most interesting point. Lady Macbeth was not ever considered as a killer when she was the key influence that caused Duncan's death.

Discussion, just like in a household, buts disputes to rest and enlightens people to see life with a different prospective. By seeing everyone's different view on the topics of Macbeth it helps me understand the book more. Open discussion and arguments can bring out views on the book that I would have never seen by just reading the book. Women in Macbeth play a role that is opposite to that of what the real world role of women is. Women have power but they are, in some instances, not allowed to show it.

I disagree with the fact that women in our society are lesser than men, though historically that is true. Women are no longer expected to stay home and take care of the kids. Today, there are such things as stay at home dads and that is also perfectly acceptable. Just as much as women manipulate men, men can also manipulate women.

I believe man has free will up to a point. It comes down to responsibilities. Like Dylan and April stated, humans have more of a choice in what they do but they still have to some things that they do not want to. Ants' lives are devoted to the colony's existence and their lives are already given towards the colony. Whether there is a bigger being that control us or already knows what we are going to do, I think ultimately we have the choice to do what we want to do and no other influence has control over this.

I thought that April brought up a valid point that human nature is to "kill to survive", or in other words do whatever to rise above all others and beat out their "competition". I agree that this is not Godly at all thus making people nothing like gods. Unlike Dylan and April though, I believe that God already knows what you are going to do in life.

The idea of humans not being gods due to the idea of survival of the fittest, and the idea of ants and humans always trying to do things for their "colony" made me realize that they do not have free will but you choices in life makes faith though the outcome is already determined, was the main idea of the argument.

Humans are incapable of controlling everything in their lives. When asked the question on whether or not Man has free will, I believe it depends almost entirely on circumstance. There were arguments that brought up the weather and how we can't control it. That's correct. Yet we are capable of controlling what we decide to eat today. On the broader question: "Is our fate predetermined?" I don't believe it is. In most cases/ societies we are capable of controlling our own fate. God may have set numerous paths out for us, but we are the ones who decide which path to take. Good opinions were brought up, including the advantages some societies have over others when choosing which path to take. Sometimes your way of life is what narrows down your path options.

I believe every human has complete control over their own life and destiny. Everyone has the power to do what they chose or in macbeth's case say no and not go through with an action such as murder. Macbeth used his own free will to chose to kill Duncan and change the course of his own life. No one took his hand with a dagger in it and pushed it into the king. Even if something is against societies' rules and restrictions people can still go through with it and do as they please. The choices we make may be influenced by our belief in a higher being and may lead us to act in a way to please our god but our god does not control decisions or our path but he is there to simply provide guidance.

Everyone is given free will and has the chance to make their own choices whether they are good or bad. While there are laws, we still have the choice whether to do what is wrong or right, and we have to know that if we make bad choices we have to deal with the consequences. God gives us the free will, to choose want we want, but if we make bad choices we are given the opportunity for forgiveness. God already knows the choices we are going to make, and it is or job to ask for forgiveness from these mistakes we make. In reference to MacBeth, the witches tell Macbeth he will become king and this tempts him to do whatever it takes to become king. He has the free will to make the choice of what he wants, and his choice is to do this through murder. Everyone has free will and can make whatever choice they have but they have to deal with the consequences it comes with consequences.

The discussion over free will has presented me with some valid points. People are both ants and gods because we can shape the world around us, but at the same time, we cannot control everything the world hands out to us. Similar to being a god or an ant, we both have and do not have free will; we are given several different outcomes and decide our paths, but there is only one being that has control over our actions and where they lead us.

I think society does expect less from women due to our history. Women were typically stay-at-home moms and did work around the house while men went out and worked. This is not the case today though, as most women are working. Also, I think not one person should have power over another, women and men should share equal power in the
house. I do feel though that women do whatever it may take for them to
get what they want. In Macbeth, the power of women is evident as Lady
Macbeth forces Macbeth into murdering Duncan. Karma is going to come around though and hurt Lady Macbeth as the power later shifts in the play, from Lady Macbeth to Macbeth.

From what I gathered, ants do not have any control over their lives. Unlike ants, humans have a great amount of control. It seems to me that God, as our higher being, determines how we start our lives. He simply guides us into a direction from which we will eventually take control. Fate will then be in our own hands. Overall, humans may not have complete control, but they do, however, decide what actions they take along the path that they have chosen for their life.

Back then, women were seen as less important than men. Women were seen as homemakers and the producer of children. Men played a bigger and more important role. Nowadays, men and women have equal power in the United States, although that is not true for every country. In Macbeth, it is obvious that Lady Macbeth has complete power over Macbeth. She is the one who basically commits the murder, forcing Macbeth to do it, by calling him a coward if he does not.
